ARTIST'S STATEMENT I am an artist and art educator living in Crozet, Virginia. Using painting and collage as my medium, my creative process is one of discovery and surprise, not planned. Layers of color, texture, and shape are important elements of my landscapes and abstract art. My paintings take me to places where I have been and where I want to go. The Blue Ridge Mountains and the shores of the Chesapeake Bay are frequently on my mind. Abstract art is new to me, but I find the challenge of composing color, line and shapes to be extremely satisfying. I often move from one rendition of a piece to another by applying new layers of collage, paint, and texture until the process has culminated into something that I feel an emotional connection with. I'm inspired by the young artists whom I teach, I seek to paint freely, imaginatively, and without inhibitions.
